SCHOLARSHIPS
The 2011 AARTA year saw the start of a new tradition. Prior to this year the Association would provide an area student(s) with a scholarship to assist them is furthering their education. The Board of Directors felt that a need existed to expand the opportunity of our scholarship to a broader number of candidates. With the approval of the general membership, the choice was made to align with the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley with the hope that eventually AARTA will be able to provide an endowed fund for the perpetuity of our scholarship(s) through the years to come.
As of September, 2016 we have reached our goal of $10,000 and became an endowment fund for the perpetuity of our AARTA scholarship all funds raised toward our AARTA scholarship will be deposited into the endowment fund. All contributions are appreciated and are tax-deductible.
The proceeds from the 50/50 raffle is usually held for the benefit of the scholarship fund--the donation thereof is made in the name our members who have recently passed away.
It is also the hope of the Board of Directors, that members will remember our scholarship and make individual donations, in the name of a loved family member or friend, to the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley. Their website is easily accessed for private donations as well as envelopes at our luncheons.

2018 Scholarship Recipient - Carly Perillo
Dear Aurora Area Retired Teachers' Association,
I am the recipient of the "Aurora Area Retired Teachers' Association" Scholarship. I am from Sugar Grove Illinois and will be studying nursing. Throughout my life, I have been a dancer. Dancing has been a huge part of my life.
Receiving this scholarship means a lot to me as my financial situation has been difficult. When I received the email informing me about the scholarship, I was filled with joy. I immediately told my family with happiness. This scholarship has helped not only me, but my family as well. It will continue to help us through our financial situation. I really appreciate the thought and kindness of this scholarship.
Sincerely,
Carly Perillo
